Tulsa Museum Tour - Oct 22

A fun day trip to 3 of Tulsa's best museums.  We go first to the Greenwood Cultural Center downtown with a docent tour that will help us understand the background, causes and aftermath of one of the nation's oldest and most violent racial events, the Tulsa Race Massacre.  Later in the morning we will visit the Woody Guthrie Center, featuring a museum dedicated to the life and legacy of the singer, songwriter and folk musician.  The museum is focused on Guthrie's works and influence through his music, writings, art, and political activities.

After lunch our group will visit the Sherwin Miller Museum in south Tulsa including the Jewish Art museum and the Holocaust center. Originally the Gershon & Rebecca Fenster Museum of Jewish Art and housed in Tulsa's Congregation B'nai Emunah Synagogue Sherwin Miller was the institution's first curator and the museum was named after him in 2000.  It moved to its current location on the Zarrow Campus in 2004.  The museum's permanent collection consists of more than 16,000 pieces, including items of archaeological and ritual significance, ethnographic costumes, synagogue textiles, historical documents, and fine art, and preserves the largest collection of Judaica in the southwest United States.
