Okla Wine Tour - Sep 8

$111.00

A full-day excursion south and west of Tulsa to some of the area's best wineries including a fun lunch stop on the way.

First on the schedule is Pecan Creek Winery in Muskogee, which, according to their website, features more than a dozen spectacular wines produced from only the highest quality grapes and other fruits. We will enjoy a fun tasting and have time to shop their inventory. What to try: the Zucker Küsse, meaning "Sugar Kiss" in German. This off-dry Riesling is medium bodied. Bearing fragrances of orange blossoms and limes, it delivers crisp Granny Smith apples on the palette that round out into a lingering honeysuckle finish. Pairs well with tangy citrus salads, spicy foods such as Mexican, Thai, or Indian. If you like, take a stroll through the 4-acre vineyard which features estate grapes of Chambourcin, Vignoles and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Next to Stroud for a visit to Stable Ridge. This local winery has a large selection of wines, almost a dozen on their "best sellers" from the standard like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay to their unique grapes and blends like Jeremiah's Red a delicious red with strong blackberry notes or Cruisin' Cab a semi-sweet Cabernet wine that pairs wonderfully with BBQ.

Before returning to Tulsa we stop at Tidewater Winery in Drumright, probably the premier winery and tasting bar near Tulsa. The building, originally a one-room schoolhouse called Tidal School built by John D. Rockefeller to serve as a school for employees of the Tidewater Oil Company in the 1920’s, is on the National Register of Historic Places. What to look for: their Red Rush a delicious red with strong flavors of raspberry and citrus as well as hints of peach that linger on the palate, along with the aroma of cherry and raspberry. Or, perhaps the Divine Muscadine with its aromas of gooseberry and unripened kiwi and flavors of sweetened raisin with faint hints of peppercorns
